The Dualtron X2 supersedes the Dualtron X, addressing power to weight and improving on stem height, either way, the X2 is an absolute tank of a scooter
If you’re looking for a powerful electric scooter that packs a massive amount of performance into a competitively priced package, then you should consider the Dualtron X2.
The Dualtron X2 is an upgraded version of the iconic Dualtron X, a legend in the evolution of scooters from toys to serious machines.
This large-wheeled scooter provides stability that gives riders confidence, as well as delivering some serious speed.
The manufacturer has upgraded the motor and suspension to provide more power and better handling.
While it’s not cheap, the Dualtron X2 delivers an exceptional ride that makes it a practical, stable and safer solution for everyday riding.
In our review today, we tackle the technical and share a comprehensive breakdown of every aspect of the new Dualtron X, to best help you decide if this is going to be the scooter for you.
Dualtron X2 Electric Scooter The Lowdown…
The Dualtron X2 is the updated version of the original Dualtron X.
Whilst the Dualtron X boasted some high end specs, the issues with the first model came down to the fact that being such a large heavy scooter, the power to weight ratio actually wasn’t overly great. On top of this, the original Dualtron X had a short stem making it less comfortable for taller riders.
The Dualtron X2 is almost identical to the Dualtron X visually (with the exception of new RGB lighting) and a taller stem. But, the Dualtron X2 sports higher powered motors offering a peak dual output of 8300w up from the originals 6720w which makes a noticeable performance difference to better balance out power to weight.
The Dualtron X2 also features a bigger battery, whilst the rated AH capacity is lower (42ah on the X2) vs (49ah on the X), the total power capacity is higher on the X2 at 3024wh vs 2940wh on the original Dualtron X.

Dualtron X2 Summary
There’s no getting away from the fact that this is a beast of a scooter. It’s not just size that matters, but performance. Thankfully, the X2 delivers that too.
Builders of the Dualtron X2, MiniMotors have spent much time ensuring that the 66kg scooter rides well. With the 13” tyres, solid deck and steering damper (an added extra), this all adds up to offer precise handling.
The ride is stable, which gives you (the rider) confidence. A touch on the intelligent ABS brakes delivers impressive stopping performance, which you’ll need, as this scooter flies.
The massive 72V 42Ah main battery paired with the 4150W motors, delivers incredible performance. Average mileage will vary, but you can expect to get over 60-90 miles on a single charge. Acceleration from the BLDC dual hub motor is smooth and progressive up to an impressive top speed of 68mph.
Never, ever forget to wear your safety gear!
The LED lights dotted around the scooter provide excellent visibility. This means you’ll be easier to spot by other road users and pedestrians. The simple but effective menu panel display keeps you in control without overloading you with information, which is a plus.
So, it’s all good news? Well, we’re not going to pretend that the weight isn’t a factor. Folding and unfolding can take some effort, which means the electric scooter is probably best-suited to those who can handle the weight. It’s also not cheap, with prices starting at £5,599 (with an extra seat and steering damper on top).
The pay-off is a scooter that performs in all conditions and delivers a solid and stable ride while reaching some incredible speeds. You have been warned!
So, the Dualtron X2 is packed full of features, but there are some pay-offs for all that power. Here are some of the cons:
• At 66kg, there’s no denying that the Dualtron X2 is one of the heaviest electric scooters on the market.
• The large battery needs at least 8 hours for a full charge, and the smaller sub-battery 1.7hrs.
• The size of the Dualtron X2 makes it less portable than other, smaller scooters.
Speed & Acceleration
The Dualtron X2 is a fast electric scooter (but, it’s not actually as fast as it should be with the power class it falls into). As you’d expect, the power delivery is progressive, with smooth acceleration. The large tyres provide essential grip to keep you planted on the road.
Whilst the top end capabilities are very good (60mph), the acceleration isn’t mind blowing when you compare it to the likes of other scooters with similar motor power outputs i.e. Nami Burn-E, Bronco 11 Xtreme, Weped FF etc. That comes down to the fact that the X2 is a big heavy road cruiser and not an agile racing scooter.
If you’ve ridden the X2 before, you’ll notice an improvement over the Dualtron X which comes down to the upgraded 4150W motors. If you’ve never ridden a scooter like this before, the wind won’t be enough to blow the smile off your face.
Having all that power at your wrist means you’ll need to ride cautiously, and it goes without saying that you’ll need to wear safety gear (like you should on all electric scooters).
The Dualtron X2 is a tank of an electric scooter. There’s no other word for it. It comes factory-fitted with a best-in-class 72V 42Ah main battery that powers two 4150W motors. Together, they deliver a staggering 8300W of combined power.
The high-performance brushless HUB (Direct Drive) delivers a consistent drive with a progressive response. Battery life is around 8 hours (depending on rider size, road conditions and riding style), with an estimated range of 60-90 real world miles (more on that later).
Thankfully, the rest of the scooter can cope with the high speeds. The manufacturer hasn’t skimped on the specifications. The touch-sensitive brakes, oversized tyres, and additional steering damper, provide impressive levels of stability across all road conditions.
The upgraded Dualtron X2 eats up hills, bounces over bumps and generally tears up any terrain you can think of. It’s not just all-out speed. Like most electric scooters, the Dualtron X2 can operate in a variety of modes. The ECO mode can reduce speed, which can extend the battery life.
Top Speed
MiniMotors claims that the Dualtron X2 can reach a max speed of 68mph, and we’re not going to argue. Top speeds naturally depend on several factors, including rider weight, weather and road conditions, and battery health. Even taking into consideration these factors, the X2 can hit some impressive speeds.
In our tests we were able to get no more than 62mph on a flat road gradient with a 70kg rider. So whilst it isn’t the acclaimed top speed, it’s not far off.
If going fast is your thing, there are few scooters out there that can match the X2. In fact, the top speed would see you matching cars on the motorway (but for obvious reasons, don’t ride on the motorway).
Hill Climbing
The Dualtron X2 can climb gradients up to 70% or 35 degrees depending on rider weight and state of charge but again this will vary heavily depending on rider weight.
Battery & Range
The Dualtron X2 has an estimated range of 80-90 miles. That’s almost enough to get you from Bristol to London on a single charge. It’s all courtesy of the X2’s massive 72V 42Ah main battery.
However – here are the true specifications when it comes to range.
Minimotors claim the Dualtron X2 will do a max of 80 miles, however, in our real-world tests, here is what we achieved:
RIDER 1: 70KG, Battery 100%, Dry Day, No Wind, Warm 24c
Eco Mode – max range achieved 66 miles
Fast Mode – max range achieved 38 miles
The high-specification Li-ion battery can provide power for up to 10 hours, long enough for the lengthiest commute. Handily, the X2 comes with two charging ports (additional chargers sold separately) which means its dual batteries can be juiced simultaneously. Using two chargers can substantially cut charging time from the estimated 8 hours.
The reality is, the Dualtron X2 even with a fast charger will still take 5-6 hours.
We do not recommend fast charging the Dualtron X2, primarily because it’s a high capacity battery which makes it VERY expensive, fast charging your battery will reduce the lifespan.
Motor Configuration
The X2 comes fitted with two brushless, direct-drive 4150W hub motors. They combine to deliver 8300W at the wheel. The sealed motors are of high-quality construction, with the manufacturer offering a two-year warranty on all new scooters.
As we’ve seen, this configuration delivers quick acceleration, and that’s what they do. It’s a 23% power upgrade on the previous model!
The Dualtron X models do not offer a single motor mode when riding – which is understandable. Given that the scooter weighs over 60kg means it’s not ideal to load a single motor with the weight of a rider + scooter, that’s why the X2 only supports constant dual motor mode.
To compensate, the EY3 allows an eco mode to extend the range.
Most scooter riders will use single motor mode on their dual motor scooters to increase range, but this is only really an option for smaller, lighter scooters.
Construction & Quality
The Dualtron X2 comes packed in a special frame that protects it during transportation. It’s a nice touch that shows the care and attention the manufacturer has put into the X2.
The frame is constructed from a corrosion-free, aerospace-grade aluminium alloy. Everything feels well-built, solid and stable – giving you the rider, the confidence you need. It’s understandable when you consider what this scooter is capable of.
The frame on the Dualtron X2 is robust, designed to cope with a heavy loading and demanding terrain. The way the swingarms connect to the frame is also designed well in that there isn’t a point of weakness. Everything about the X2’s box frame is “beefy”. You don’t feel like you are standing on something that could break or fail.
The Dualtron X2’s stem and column mount (connecting the main deck to the front swingarm) is strong and reinforced on the underside with criss-crossing bracing to strengthen the whole front end.
Whilst the lower steering arm and suspension mounts look thin, they are strong and positioned in such a way to evenly distribute load down to the wheel.
There is literally 0 stem flex on the Dualtron X2 even though it has been made longer for a higher handlebar height. Looking at the sheer size of the steering column it’s easy to see why – although it does house a battery (which gives it that additional size).
The deck construction is absolutely solid, there is also an underside vent / plastic cover (be mindful of this when taking your Dualtron X2 over any steps – ensure there is sufficient ground clearance or you will catch the plastic undertray).
The X2 uses the same motorcycle suspension as the first X – which is great, it looks and feels really robust, you can tell the components and fixings are high quality.
The overall quality of the Dualtron X2 is very good as with most Dualtron models.
Suspension & Comfort
The scooter comes with high-performance, 19-step adjustable hydraulic suspension at the front and rear.
The sizeable suspension springs are adjustable, enabling you to dial-in the perfect setting for the rider weight and terrain. It might take some trial-and-error to get the settings right, but it’s worth persevering.
When you’re on the road, the perfectly calibrated suspension soaks up the lumps, bumps and humps, delivering a smooth ride that you’d expect at this price point.
The suspension springs and sub-frame must cope with a lot on the road, so it’s reassuring to see the manufacturer has invested heavily here. It’s a good sign for the long-term performance and reliability of your scooter.
Overall the Dualtron X2 offers a VERY smooth and comfortable ride, in fact, this is easily one of the most comfortable scooters we’ve ever ridden. The suspension travel makes the ride smooth, but less sporty.
Whilst you can firm up the suspension for a sportier feel, there is no getting away from it, the X2 is not a sporty scooter, so don’t expect an agile feel when taking the Dualtron X2 out of its comfort zone (the road / paved surfaces).
The X2 is a cruiser and that’s it – the suspension offers significant travel – combined with ultra wide tyres, means the X2 will make a meal out of poor road surfaces, bumps and small potholes (although stay away from the larger ones).
Ride Quality
So, how does all this power translate to ride quality? Pretty well. Here are the pros and cons
When being ridden, it’s hard to fault the Dualtron X2. The powerful motor and large battery ensure you’re never stuck for torque, and the heavyweight frame, large wheel size, and steering damper make this scooter a pleasure to ride.
Standing on the scooter, you’ll feel the 66kg weight drift away as you start to accelerate. The scooter is manoeuvrable and comfortable, which mean eating up the miles on a commute is never a chore.
At a standstill, however, you can certainly feel the weight. Its sheer size may make setting off and stopping difficult for smaller riders. It’s also a bit of a handful folding up and down with its 66kg weight quickly becoming a bit of a chore.
Braking
The touch-sensitive braking system brakes give the confidence that you’ll need, with the X2 capable of hitting a max speed of almost 70mph. Here are some of the pros and cons.
The scooter is fitted with hydraulic brakes front and rear to deliver the maximum stopping power.
While we would never recommend riding in the wet, hydraulic brakes can provide 100% stopping power. The intelligent ABS reduces your risk of locking and skidding.
Braking is progressive, which means the more power you apply at the lever, the greater stopping power is transferred to the wheels. While this is great, you’ll need to be careful when applying pressure, as even the most intelligent ABS sensors can’t protect you all the time.
Portability
The X2 is a folding scooter, but it’s hard to describe it as portable. Here are the pros and cons from our rider review.
The folding mechanism makes the X2 easier to store inside a flat, house or garage. It also makes it easier to carry up and down stairs, hide under a desk, and slide inside a lift if needed.
While the folding mechanism is smooth and easy to manipulate, at 66kg, you’ll hardly be lugging this on the bus or train. Before investing, consider just how portable you need your scooter to be.
Lights
Staying seen is crucial to being safe, so it’s encouraging that MiniMotors has spec’d the X2 with some seriously powerful lights. There are dual LED headlights that provide a clear view of the road ahead.
The rider can control the lights’ direction with a small panel on the handlebars. Adjusted with a simple menu, you’ll get superb sight of what’s in front of you.
At the back, strong LED brake lights ensure other road users and pedestrians you share the streets with know when you’re stopping.
It doesn’t end there. The X2 is kitted out with LEDs all over the stem tube, deck, under the deck, and on the rims. As well as looking great, these lights provide 360-degree visibility day and night, which means extra safety and protection, which we found to be a real plus in real-world conditions.
Tyres
We’ve mentioned it before, but it’s worth restating that the stock tyres on the X2 are HUGE. The ultra-wide, 13” tyres deliver exceptional balance and stability, and that’s not the only benefit.
The size of the tyres enables them to eat up terrain. Whether you’re riding on the road or off it, you’ll enjoy excellent grip. The tyres are tubeless, which means its more straightforward (and cheaper) to replace when they wear out.
Are there any issues? At 13”, the tyres (and wheels) are massive. That means the X2 is suited more for larger riders capable of managing the weight and the power. We’re not saying smaller riders can’t use the X2, just be prepared.
To ensure consistent performance, you’ll need to keep an eye on air pressure, and top-up if required. To make it easier, you’ll find details of maximum air-pressure on the sidewall of the tyre.
Deck
The Dualtron X2’s deck is nothing short of monstrous, and so it needs to be sporting a 3kwh battery.
But, as with the original X model, the X2 still has the issue of “too short a deck”. Whilst the deck width is substantial, the length is still insufficient. The need for a longer deck has been partially mitigated by making the stem higher (making it easier to ride without a crouched stance) however, having more space to put your feet would have been nice.
Some X2 models appear to NOT feature the rear footrests (which are present on the original X) however these can be added on, making it easier to place one foot behind the other when riding (For a more aggressive riding stance).
The deck hasn’t really changed from the original model, the only exception is the side lighting which is now RGB vs the original “white LED” array which illuminates the Dualtron logo.
We’d have liked to have seen a longer deck on the X2, but, for many it isn’t a deal breaker.
Controls & Display
The Dualtron X2 features an uprated switchgear over the original Dualtron X.
The Dualtron X2’s switch gear is a lot nicer than the original buttons used on the first X. The left hand light and indicator switch gear has been replaced by a unit that is ergonomically better than the first version (which was a bit of a nightmare when trying to use and cancel the indicators).
On the original Dualtron X, the indicator button was poor, it was hard to cancel, most riders would inadvertently indicate the opposite direction when intending to cancel indication.
The Dualtron X2 shares the same switch gear as the Dualtron Storm.
You have the same functions for indicators, headlight and horn.
The Dualtron X2 switchgear is definitely an improvement.
The display however still sports the EY3 control panel – we feel that whilst this is OK, it’s a bit disappointing to see a new scooter still using such an old panel. Many modern electric scooters such as the Nami Burn-E use a nice LCD visual display which is a lot more appealing than the green and black display on the EY3 panel.
It’s time for Dualtron to up their game and work on a new, more visually appealing speedo/odometer/control panel.
Build Quality
As you’d expect from a scooter in this price range, construction is impeccable. The Dualtron X2 oozes quality, with MiniMotors not skimping on components and product material to meet the specific price point.
The spec sheets give a great illustration of what to expect, but they don’t tell the whole story.
When unpacking the X2, it’s clear this scooter is built to exacting standards. What also becomes immediately apparent is that this scooter isn’t just big, it’s massive – and it certainly isn’t light. In terms of size, you’re certainly getting value for money.
The X2 is built to last, which is what you’d expect from a scooter costing almost £6,000.
Water Resistance
The X2 has an IP54 rating, which means you should be careful of moisture.
Like all electric scooters, you should exercise caution using the scooter in wet conditions. The battery pack and motors are all susceptible to water ingress that can cause them to breakdown. What’s more, you’ll also find that your warranty won’t cover you for water damage.
We didn’t test the X2 in the wet, and we recommend you don’t use your X2 if it is raining.
Reliability
During testing, we observed no reliability issues with the X2. Reviewers and regular users report no current issues that we could find. MiniMotors is an established manufacturer with a good reputation, so we’re confident that this scooter is built to a great standard and is reliable in the long term.
For peace of mind, the X2 comes with a two-year warranty.
We’ve searched user reviews and comments, and there are currently no known issues with the scooter. The average customer rating is high, with many riders happy they added the Dualtron X2 to their shopping cart!
If we discover any issues, we’ll update the review and share them so you can read about them here first.
Warranty & Customer Support
The Dultron X2 has an incredible 2 year warranty on all faults. The customer service and support is also faultless from this brand.
Maintenance
The X2s motor and battery are (as expected) sealed units, which mean there’s no need to worry about maintenance. You’ll need to keep the battery power topped up (naturally).
Like all electric scooters, you should keep it clean and free of mud, dirt, dust, and debris that can work its way inside to the vital components.
While not strictly maintenance, you’ll need to check tyre pressures regularly. We recommend periodically checking your suspension settings too to ensure the best and most comfortable ride. We found this to be simple and straightforward.
Dualtron X2: Is it worth the money and is it worth buying?
If you are looking for a scooter that screams a presence on the road, offers exceptional comfort and range then YES the X2 is definitely worth considering. There aren’t many scooters in this power class with the size and range that the X2 offers. Equally the X2 isn’t for those who are on a budget.
The X2 is very expensive, at the same price as a family car, you have to weigh up whether or not parting with £5000 is really worth it.
If money is no object and you are looking for a long range scooter then yes, buy the X2.
If you are looking for the same equivalent speed and power at a lower cost there are other scooter models out there which are less than half the price such as the VSETT 11, ZERO 11X and Bronco 11 Xtreme.
